HP ratings have been made suspect over the years by large retailers who like to use "peak HP" or " SPL " in their terminology. Example 1: If your current motor says 21 FL amps at 230VAC. It may work for a day, but it will eventually fail within the first hours of use. This is why its important that your new motors frame size matches the old motor you're replacing. This will ensure your replacement motor will work for years to come.

If your machine requires a 230volt electric motor on single phase power. Matching up the RPM is quite important. The wrong speed can damage your pump. The RPM does not have to match exactly, but you do need to be the neighborhood.

3510rpm, 3550rpm, 3450rpm are all the same. They all fall under the umbrella of whats known as 3600RPM motors. Measure the outside diameter on your electric motors shaft. The most common 5HP compressor duty motor shaft diameters are 5/8" 7/8" 1 1/8. By matching up the proper shaft diameter, you will be able to reuse the original motor pulley that came on your machine. Cause for premature motor failure is improperly sized wire supplying power to the motor. If the wire run is long, and the wire is too small it will cause the motor to draw excessive amps, especially on startup, causing the the internal motor start switch to arc and fail, eventually burning up the motor.

Remember, on initial motor start up, the motor can draw as much as 4 times the rated motor name plate amperage for a few seconds. We recommend the motor be installed by a "qualified" licensed electrician. Another area to watch is dirt, paint, oil, saw dust and other material in the air that might get sucked into the motor.

A properly installed motor will last for years, normally motor failure is caused by an outside force, such as the power supply, belts too tight or misaligned and a burned up motor is the result of that. This is a single phase electric motor. Our motors are current stock, not surplus or reconditioned.
